Pre'lek

PHYSIOLOGY
Bipedal reptiloids with prehensile head-tentacles. There are two Pre'lek "sexes": neuter and fertile. Fertile Pre'leks, or Pyo'wuu'ka, are divided into three classes according to which fertility cycle they are in. In the nurturing phase, Pyo'wuu'ka suckle and tend to newborn young. The next two cycles are alternating male and female phases (Pyo'wuu'ka are born  hermaphroditic). If pregnancy occurs while a Pyo'wuu'ka is female, "she" is "locked" into the female cycle for the entire gestation period. Following birth, the Pyo'wuu'ka enters a brief period of inactivity and ritual seclusion - the young being taken care of by nurturing phase Pyo'wuu'ka.

CULTURE
Neuters, called Pre'leki, dominate Pre'lek culture. They control all aspects of life, including care of the Pyo'wuu'ka. The Pre'leki view the Pyo'wuu'ka as a necessity of life, but nothing more, and treat the Pyo'wuu'ka as second class citizens. Although one might think that this would cause a significant amound of class friction, it doesn't. The Pyo'wuu'ka are content to be breeding machines. In the event that a Pyo'wuu'ka is born with the syo, or inner spirit, of a Pre'leki, the fertile is viewed as an incarnation of the cosmic generative deity Suum'kyu. As such, the Pyo'wuu'ka is given dominion over one of the many temples to Suum'kyu dotting the Pre'lek Homeworld.
